Cheryl Spainhour is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies. She has taught at UNC Charlotte since 1998. She currently teaches undergraduate courses in the Journalism minor, including Advanced News Reporting and Writing, Feature Writing, and Introduction to Journalism. In the fall of 2014, she taught a special topics journalism course, “Covering Poverty in America,” and the multimedia website produced by the students won a 2014 Regional Mark of Excellence award from the Society of Professional Journalists. [View it at http://ncpoverty.com/ She also teaches public speaking. She is a Student Advisor for students in the Deparment. She has worked as a newspaper and radio journalist and she has also freelanced for various publications. She chairs the Journalism Curriculum Committee and oversees the Journalism Advisory Council. She is the advisor of the student journalism minor webpage and the editor of the Department’s annual EZine. She is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.
